The Gilded Age is a satirical novel published in 1873 by Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner dealing with greed and corruption in politics, business and the courts in post-Civil War America. It is the first significant novel about Washington in American literature. Although this is not one of Twain’s better known works, its title became synonymous with the era and the graft, materialism and corruption in public life. It is the only novel which Twain wrote with a collaborator.
