Seyai Narvez, a young alien from planet Oceana, came to Earth since she was a child, looking for her soul mate. This is a search that every alien has to go through with approval from their Goddess and ruler, Osuarua. After going from state to state and suffering serious heartbreaks, Seyai has lost hope in finding her love. Not to mention, the stress of living in a foreign planet has gotten to her parents, especially her mother. So when she first walks into her biology class, she never expected to feel the intense spark form between her and her teacher, Zevran Michaels. When Zevran points out that his first name is her last name backwards, Seyai realizes it’s the first sign of a mate and decides to pursue him, ignoring his status as a teacher and his failing marriage. Despite Zevran’s false denial of attraction, their relationship thrives as they spend more time together, making each other’s lives better.

Meanwhile, in Oceana, Kashiek, an alien anxious to have Seyai for himself, threatens his colleague, Steve, in making Seyai’s search for a mate more difficult. Back on Earth, the tension between Seyai and Zevran increases to the point where they can’t stop thinking about each other. Both decide to go clubbing as a way to clear their minds. After ending up together again at the club, they decide to let loose and dance. However, problems arise when Zevran’s neighbor confronts him about his inappropriate behavior with Seyai. He attempts to end things with her, but Seyai refuses to back down. He gives up with a kiss, but his touch ignites the beginning stages of her transformation (another mating sign), causing her to run away in pain.

After two weeks, Seyai finally makes her decision to tell Zevran the truth. That night, she feels a pain in her heart and realizes it’s Zevran’s heart calling out to her. Without a moment’s thought, she runs to his home where he’s waiting for her, having felt the same calling. The moment she crashes into his arms, is the moment they admit their love. When they’re about to have sex for the first time, Amanda interrupts and Zevran ends their marriage. Afterwards, Seyai explains the truth and Zevran, though shocked, accepts it. When they head back to her home to tell her parents, they’re shocked to find them with Kashiek, who managed to convince them to sign Seyai to him, infuriating her. After convincing her parents that Zevran’s her mate, they decide to terminate the contract.

Kashiek then forces Steve to kill Zevran through a series of natural disasters on Earth, but Seyai and Zevran survive against all odds, causing Kashiek to resort to the last attempt. He forces, Seyai’s best friend, Anaiel to speed up her transformation. Seyai begins to lose life as she rapidly transforms. She begs Zevran to have sex with her and he reluctantly agrees. As they’re mating, they both transform, growing wings and developing powers. However, they are kidnapped by Kashiek once again. He puts them in separate rooms and beats Zevran before leaving. It takes their undying love to escape their captivity together. They end up in Oceana where Kashiek and his father are banished to Earth and Seyai becomes the new Goddess, marrying Zevran and living a happy life.

But paradise is cut short when Seyai finds out she’s pregnant, not with Zevran’s child, but with what Osuarua claims is the devil.
