All Jayden wants is to get away. Overhauling his life, he moves to enjoy a quiet, peaceful existence in the countryside, away from the modern pressures of the city. Unfortunately, cosmic forces have different plans for him, and after opening a dusty, old book in the attic of his new farm, Jayden finds out that he's somehow become the Alpha of a pack of 'modern' werewolves. As the Alpha, Jayden is meant to lead the pack but how can an ex-human with a crippling anxiety disorder lead a pack of jaded werewolves? Jayden doesn't believe he can but fortunately there's a wolf out there who does...As the sexual tension continues to build between them, will Frank be able to convince Jayden that he truly belongs as the Alpha of the pack? Excerpt:According to Frank, although it was true that the alpha was supposed to be the leader of the pack, this distinction wasn’t particularly prominent any more in the age of the modern werewolf. While packs were still somewhat territorial and stuck closely to each other, each link in the pack was a lot less interdependent on each other than in the old days, and the title of alpha was more of a throwback to the old days. That said, the alpha was still the most powerful member of the pack and he was meant to lead the pack in the event the pack got into a tight spot. Frank admitted that he never thought that an ex-human would have been able to become an alpha from the start but he wasn’t one to argue with the scent. If there was one thing that all werewolves trusted instinctively, it was their nose, and the collective noses of the pack recognised the scent of their new alpha, Jayden.“So whatever happened to the old alpha?” Jayden asked.“He was killed by the alpha of a rival pack,” Samantha said sombrely, “Now that you’ve become the new alpha, we have to go and avenge his death?” “Are you being serious?” Jayden asked warily.“Nope. He actually ran away with some whore wolf. He wasn’t exactly a particularly good alpha.” Samantha took the steaks and distributed them around the table. Everybody around the table got a slab but she gave Jayden two. “Erm…” he said, “I know I’m supposed to be the alpha and all but I don’t really want any special treatment or anything.” Jayden had recalled from those National Geographic specials that the alpha-male of the species usually got first dibs on the best parts of the meal before the others ate, and he felt a little uncomfortable with the idea.“Oh, don’t get too high on yourself, Alpha,” Samantha said, rolling her eyes, “We had one extra steak left over and you’re getting it cos you paid for the everything. Remember, we’re all modern wolves here.”Slowly, everybody around the table burst into laughter. Jayden couldn’t help but laugh as well. Maybe being part of a pack wouldn’t be so bad after all.
