"Songs of the King: The Founding of Britain" is a short, modern folkloric retelling of the discovery and founding of Britain, as told in Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain" and elsewhere.
In his simple and direct folkloric style, Olsen gives new life to the tales of the Welsh hero Bran the Blessed, first king of Albion, the discovery of the British mainland by the Trojan hero Brutus (from whom the Britons have been named ever since), and the first Britons' guidance by the gods who guaranteed their destiny as the nation they would later become.
