Claire is a beautiful black and white cat who became part of the family the same day that the Neddlebees brought both her and Skittles home from the pound. Skittles was already taken by her before they became part of the family; he confessed in his story that he believed that she didn’t even know he was there, and a little respect from her was his greatest desire. As time passed, all of the people and the animals accepted that there was something different and special about Claire. She spent most of her time sitting on her pink stool looking out the window or crawling up on Match’s bed to go to sleep. Match was attached to his bed, but when Claire chose it as a spot to sleep, the dog rarely challenged the mysterious member of the family. Even Mr. Neddlebee, who had chosen to bring Claire home, told a friend that “she lives in her own little world.” However, there are clues to suggest that there is more to Claire than anyone imagines. In her own story, we find Claire thinking. Her observations, especially after the death of Holly, causes her to consider serious and important questions, and her answers, which can have meaning for all of us, suggest that her actions are changing as well.
