In the book's title story “Any Other Name,” it's 1962 and the world is on the brink of nuclear war. For 13 days in October what became forever know as the Cuban Missile Crisis raged in Cuba, the U.S.A., and the U.S.S.R. The story begins when a 21-year old ex-marine, working for the CIA, becomes involved in the operations in Cuba, as a spy, for America. He is there, in Cuba, when DEF CON 2, one step away from an all-out nuclear war, is activated and he sees history made from a much different angle than anyone else, and this, then, is his story. In “The Terror,” we experience something even worse than the horrors of World War II, a Russian veteran, now living in South Florida, who cannot let go of the past and his life under Stalin, for so many years. In “Hav-a-Heart,” a mystery-thriller that deals with the harsh, economic realities of today's changing work-place and how it affects people's personal lives; we see how the real estate crisis, brought on by Wall Street's careless recklessness, affected so many people and how it also ruined so many lives. These first 3 stories, then, set the pace for the next 8 and any readers who tend to like historical mystery/thrillers will have a hard time putting this book down, so pick it up, grab a glass of ice tea and get started.
