The X Tract is a novel based on the fictional diaries, sketch books and memorabilia that define an old man’s memories of a love affair that he had from the age of 7 to 28. He is an artist and obsessed with James Joyce's Ulysses. The affair starts in Hellerup, Denmark in 1937 and draws to a conclusion in Kerala, India in 2010. The underlying structure of the narrative is built around the love story but not in a conventional sense, the landscapes that it inhabits having far wider historical and social horizons that overlap several genres. It is literary fiction which incorporates some romance and some eroticism, a few moral dilemmas, foreign travel to exotic places and various streams of consciousness resulting from extreme circumstances and experimentation with substances.
