This is the story of one Palatine family that settled in Ireland. The Bouman / Bauman / Bowerman / Bowman family arrived in 1709. The story illustrates, for me, the broader consequences of war and upheaval on any family and the population as a whole. It could be the story of any refugee family at any time. Driven from the Palatinate, the family was scattered throughout England, Ireland and North America. At this stage they may be in many more countries, each possessing different nationalities, cultures and religions. Researching the story has been a great education and has taught me the importance of tolerance towards all refugees, a valuable lesson in today.
