Pets of all sorts are capable of bringing great joy to owners, and none more so than cats and dogs, creatures that interact particularly closely with humans. In the family home, a cat or dog can become a much loved member of the family, offering in return love and companionship, and if children are present, offering the children the opportunity to participate in responsibility for the pet’s wellbeing. For those who live alone, through choice or otherwise, a pet offers great psychological comfort and support

Cats have now overtaken dogs as the most popular pet in the world, and although cat ownership has been commonly associated with women, research in 2007 indicated that both men and women were equally likely to own a cat.

Many people, contemplating owning a cat for the first time, will perhaps almost automatically think in terms of acquiring a kitten. However this short report of approximately 20 Kindle pages puts forward the proposition that for some a better choice may be to adopt an adult cat.

Having offered the argument for this course of action, the report goes on to offer information and advice for the new owner to enable the scene to be set for a long and affectionate relationship between cat and owner. Such information, it is hoped, will be of particular value to the prospective owner who has never owned a cat before. However, even those who have always owned their cats from kittenhood, and will be familiar with much of this report’s content, may nevertheless find the information of interest, providing food for thought if they are now considering taking on a fully grown cat for the first time.
