To avoid a scandal, seventeen year-old Victoria is forced by her family to annul her hasty elopement. She is sent out West to Etna Mills, California in 1893.

Alone in a small town far from home, things go from bad to worse when Victoria discovers she is with child. Determined to establish an honorable reputation amongst the gossiping townspeople, Victoria knows she cannot accomplish her goal as long as she remains a single mother.

In a race against the clock, Victoria sets aside her fears and Christian moral values, choosing to rely on charm and intelligence to entice an eligible bachelor to marry her before her secret is discovered--before Christmas, if possible.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
If you want to know more about me, you can view my author's website and blog at www.marriagehealing.blogspot.com, but I'll tell you a little about myself here:

So far, I have written only this one book for publication: "Where the Road Rises" (first published under the title "A Bride by Christmas"). Writers are always told to "write what you know," so I wrote a story about where I live. I live in the mountains of Northern California near the Oregon border. The main town in my book is Etna Mills, now called simply "Etna." Over the years I have learned a lot about our local history, so writing about my home town was (and is) a lot of fun.

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong century. That's what my Great Grandma "GG" used to tell me. I would listen to her stories of the "good ol' days" of horses and wagons, beautiful dresses, and proper etiquette. Everything then sounded sweet, innocent, and beautiful. We didn't have television growing up; every Monday night we'd go to GG's house to watch "Little House on the Prairie," and as a nerdy ten year-old I began to write Civil War stories based on my passion for "Gone with the Wind," by Margaret Mitchell. I later became a history and English teacher. No surprise there. I guess you could say I have had a love affair with history and writing all my life.

And romance..? Without question, my husband Pete is the inspiration for the romantic element of my writing. Although I have written a couple of racy romance manuscripts, they won't be published. My genre niche is historical Christian romance (rated PG-13 at the very "worst"). But, don't worry; the passion I have for Pete still shines through my clean fiction writing--just in a more subtle way.

As of this time (early 2013) I'm currently working on the sequel to "Where the Road Rises." I'm also writing a science fiction novel about a young woman who travels back in time to Medieval England to escape her abusive husband. My past years living in Europe as a missionary, as well as my personal experience as a survivor of spousal abuse are the inspiration for the latter book.

Yes, that last bit of information is perhaps a little disturbing, especially for a Christian author. However, I believe it is something that needs to be written...someday.

Thank you so much for reading about me and my book! I'm honored that you would take time out of your busy life to read this and seriously consider reading "Where the Road Rises."
