Stanley 'Slim' Perkins had a great life as a wrangler on his father's horse ranch, supplying horses to the U.S. Cavalry, in a secluded valley in the rolling hills of Kansas. That was, until he was taken, conscripted into the Union Army, in the American Civil War.

He was left shell shocked, and broken, at the end of it, and bereft of spirit, So much so, that his father said he was empty and lost, like a man with hollow spurs.

He left, to try and find himself again, only to find bigger trials ahead. Namely, Quantrill's Raiders, a hangover from the war, now headed by evil personified in Henry 'Black Patch' McGraw, for a special purpose. Also, there was a wanton woman, Angel Harrow. Then, there was the aptly named town of No Hope, where dead outlaws were displayed in an undertakers shop window, as a warning. And the no nonsense Sheriff of No Hope, Arkansas, Shep Woolley. All these were set to either make Slim Perkins, or, leave him with hollow spurs for ever.
