Alain decided he had a great deal higher probability of staying sane during his twenty-year reign as emperor, if he went into the past and chose his own brother/best friend. He liked the configuration of the time ship, a red 1963 Corvette, did a bit of research on the period and chose the date in 1964. He noted the setting hadn't been explored, just visited. He liked that too.
