Sophie is a young girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She has a bit of a chip on her shoulder and is angry with her parents and her life. Her friends are leading her astray and she has begun to do badly at school and indulge in some risky behaviour.

After an unpleasant encounter between her friends and a disabled classmate, Sophie begins to re-evaluate her relationship with them. Her conduct at school has deteriorated to the point where she is referred for behaviour management. As she begins to spend more and more time on her own in the hills, she encounter a crow which behaves strangely and seems to want to communicate with her.

Despite guidance from her avian mentor, Sophie gets into further trouble at school. Crow tries to show Sophie that there is a better path for her in life than the one she has been following. Then a shocking incident at the shop where she has started to work part-time forces her to confront her unruly past head on.
