Knarf 4 is a complete fantasy role-playing game that allows the gamemaster to create a rich and colorful campaign setting and the players to create a character with skills and abilities they want to play. Knarf 4 emphasizes the role-playing aspects of the fantasy game genre with transparent game mechanics that allow full immersion by the player into the game world. If you want to play a game that consists solely of a series of mindless combat encounters by a superhuman, invincible, juggernaut warrior, this is not the game for you!

This is a skill based system. Rather than gain new levels with play as in most systems, the characters instead gain skill points that can be used to purchase new skills or improve their existing skills. This allows the player to grow and adapt the character they have created from humble beginnings to a seasoned adventurer that matches their vision of who the character should be.

The manual includes: 1) a guide to creating characters with a wide variety of races from which to chose; 2) a spells casting system with hundreds of individual spells in 20 spell paths; 3) a mystical skill system including beastmaster, undead mastery, shapechange, and bardic skills among others; 4) a combat system with dozen of weapons; 5) monster listings; 6) discussion of fantasy world mechanics; and 7) magic item creation. Commentary is provided to explain why things work the way they do in the game. If you want a fantasy role-playing game, with actual role-playing involved, this is the game you want.
