What happened to the Buddha that fateful day when he decided he was tired of all the trials and errors to no end, to no enlightenment? Well he sat down under the Bodhi tree as the story goes, and stated that he would not move from his seated place until he found enlightenment. He sat in insight meditation, that means he sat and contemplated on something. What he was concentrating on was life and all that he had seen and experienced since leaving his castle and his royal life. He had seen much suffering, in fact more than anything else. He had seen death, old age, sickness and sadness and he had experienced some of those himself.
Insight meditation is the type of meditation that will bring you to enlightenment they say. One can sit in meditation and concentrate on their breath all they want, but will still not find enlightenment. Peace yes, but enlightenment no. If you want to find enlightenment you have to use insight meditation. As the name implies, you will become full of great insight about things. Insight means, seeing into deeper, gaining the meaning of something. When you read through some sutras if you are Buddhist or if you read through Bible verses if you are Christian or any other sacred books and then sit and contemplate what you've read, this is insight meditation.
In this book we will discuss this technique of meditation in more detail with some scenarios as to what you might expect using insight meditation. This is book 2 of 4. The series can be found on Amazon.com by the author.
