Inspired by the first global Hip Hop debate, which took place on June 26th , 2012, featuring KRS-One, Jesse Jackson, Michael Eric Dyson, Estelle, P.J. O’Rourke, ?uestlove, Q-Tip, Tricia Rose, Isaiah Thomas, Toure, and others, this short book, or e-book “single,” explores Hip Hop’s “missed opportunity,” and examines the forms of slavery that shackle the mind and the spirit, if not the body.
This book also explores Hip Hop as a vehicle for social mobility and cultural transformation. One of the recurring themes is whether or not Hip Hop is a form of crossover and “passing.”
The book discusses Afrocentrism and the question of “authenticity,” and the significance of mainstreaming Hip Hop in a “post-racial” society.
