Everyone has that one moment in their life that they wish they could take back; For Billy Cahill that moment came when his wife was out of town and he went out with his secretary and her friends. After a night of drinking and heavy flirting, Billy leaves with another woman.
Two days later, Detective Jimmy “Fitz” Fitzpatrick is assigned the case when the woman’s body turns up in a dumpster. Being an old family friend of Billy’s, Fitz finds it hard to believe Billy is capable of such a thing despite the evidence and the fact Billy lied while being questioned about his tryst with the deceased.
Jack Stiles marvels at the unintentional circus he has created. The fact that it is Billy Cahill, a fierce rival in high school and the current reason he is unemployed, getting charged with the murder he committed makes it that much better.
Despite finishing his career with this seemingly open and shut case, the memory of a dead partner and the need to show his young partner the right way of doing things, compels Fitz to dig deeper and find out who really killed the woman.
