All it took was one mistake. One hasty mistake left Claw critically injured and limping through the snow during a harsh winter. The only meager prey he can find taken by a starving fox. What the cat doesn't know is what the aftermath of surviving Winter will bring. Come Spring, Claw's youthful sense of invincibility has been shattered and his past haunts him worst than ever before. As he tries to push all that aside to stay focused on his goal he can't forget how all his previous attempts have ended in failure. Thus he begins to think he's nothing but a failure.
Meanwhile, Swift only wanted to fly. But the young falcon gets more than expected on the day he finally does. He happens upon a dangerous secret and begins to uncover many lies. Soon he gets a taste of just how real the danger is when he witnesses the violent murder of an innocent falcon. Thus he becomes determined and agrees with youthful zeal when a mysterious cat asks for his help to put a stop to it, a cat who seems to know everything about him. As time passes Swift finds that he has to do what he dislikes the most to stay safe. He has to lie. And slowly he feels like he's being overwhelmed by all the lies.
'Animals: The Lies Uncovered' is a character driven animal fantasy inspired by books such as Watership Down (by Richard Adams) and the Warrior series (by Erin Hunter). Claw is an all too relatable character dealing with a fear of death, feeling like a failure, past regrets, and the urge to just give up. Swift's story is more of a coming of age. The falcon learns evil is not only real but often all too close, and it can never be stopped unless someone takes a stand.
A lot must be overcome, but often the most important adversary is the one we all must face. Ourselves.
