The goal of this program is to improve the management of sleep-disordered breathing and treatment of the patient with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS). After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Evaluate patients for the presence of a sleep-related breathing disorders.
2: Differentiate between types of breathing events and forms of sleep apnea.
3: Utilize continuous or bilevel positive airway pressure (CPAP or BiPAP) to treat sleep-disordered breathing and its sequelae.
4: Estimate the impact of simple obesity (SO) and OHS on a patient’s respiratory function.
5: Describe logistic and technical difficulties encountered during diagnostic and perioperative management of the obese patient.
