Purpose: Audio-Digest Foundation CME/CE activities are designed to provide its learners – physicians and other healthcare professionals – with continuing education that will help identify clinical problems in their practice settings, provide content to help to solve those problems, and increase their application of knowledge to practice.

The goal of this program is to reduce rates of risky substance use and smoking. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Explain the effect of substance use on the reward center of the brain and its clinical implications.
2: Screen all patients for substance use and identify patients who may benefit from brief interventions.
3: Appropriately prescribe pharmacotherapeutic agents to aid patients in stopping use of alcohol or opioids.
4: Discuss the importance of targeted personal advice, specific quit plans, and follow-up for patients attempting to quit smoking.
5: Compare mechanism of action and outcome of approved pharmacotherapies for smoking cessation.
