WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
The language contained in this book is that of the women themselves (and not my own). It may contain words currently considered politically incorrect and derogatory. If you are easily offended by such language, I am deeply sorry. The words and syntax they used was probably not proper at the time they were used, but their usage was common place.
These are the interviews of the women of slavery. They are taken from oral narratives in approximately 1938 in various areas of Alabama. The women interviewed were all older, but their memories of the events surrounding slavery, the Civil War, and freedom are clear and concise.
This work is derived from larger works that contain male points of view on slavery.
