What a fantastically funny piece of writing, I absolutely loved it. Great style which lets us into the mind of the character at once. All I can say is brilliant, excellent and highly recommended. --Julie Elizabeth Powell, "Julie’s Quick Picks," The LL Book Review
From the Preface:
Things happen to Lyle. They happen with far greater frequency and drama than his occupation would suggest. He is a middle-aged editor of correspondence courses at a small university in the Midwest before desktop typewriters were replaced by desktop computers.
Lyle tries to be helpful. He measures the success of these efforts by a different yardstick than the one used by the people he helps. When things happen to Lyle, things ALWAYS happen to the people around him.
Lyle’s world is close to reality, but just skewed enough that its cast of characters has names that fit who they are or what they do, such as the Aviation instructor, Professor Partial Proploss. Lyle has interesting coworkers, but some of the funniest things that happen to Lyle happen outside the office (around campus and around town).
For Lyle, bizarre is the new normal.
John Arthur Robinson is a master at creating ridiculously funny names and at putting Lyle in hilariously funny situations.
