A BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF “CODENAME: RYAN”

It’s 1969 in Can Tho, South Vietnam. Chief Warrant Officer Two Raymond Anes is considered by most as the best “Cobra Gun Pilot in the Mekong Delta. An AH 1G Cobra in his hands was indeed considered a formidable weapon. Although only 23, he was already on his second combat tour.
He is suddenly ordered to Saigon, to MacVee, Army Headquarters’ and is to see General Macmul, the 1st Aviation Brigade Commander; Commander of all Army Aviation units fighting in South Vietnam. His Commanding Officer in Can Tho doesn’t like the whole affair but is powerless to stop it. He is afraid they are going to ask his best Cobra Pilot to “do something stupid” that will probably get him killed.
The General wants him for a top secret mission. He’s needed to fly “Gun Cover” for two Air Force Jolly Green Giants Helicopters that are to be used in a daring night rescue of eleven American Prisoners of War held in a small prison camp in North Vietnam. If he accepts the mission he is further told he can immediately return to the US afterwards. His combat tour of duty in Vietnam would then be over.
After accepting it he stays at Army Headquarters to await the remodification of his Cobra Gun Ship. As luck would have it on his first day he meets a beautiful American Army Corporal. She is anxious to meet this famous “Gun Fighter” from the Mekong Delta and a passionate, poignant love affair soon develops. She is aware of the dangerous mission ahead for him since she works for the General. The love affair soon exceeds any and all emotional boundaries. She simply doesn’t want to let go of him…She can’t!
The raid into North Vietnam is a complete success, all American POWs are safely rescued but unfortunately his Cobra is shot down as he is covering the withdrawal of the two Air Force helicopters. His front seater and pal Glen Holmes is killed on impact. It is reported that both are Missing In Action and presumed dead! Anes survives the crash and against all odds walks out of North Vietnam, through Laos and into Thailand. Danger and his eminent death are lurking around every corner, every tree and in every insect laden swamp.
The General has the unenviable task of telling his girl friend he is missing in action and presumed dead. She is unable to cope with this hard, cruel fact, it is simply too much. She collapses into an almost catatonic state and is sent back to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington D.C. for intensive psychiatric care. She and her presumed late “boyfriend” had become so much more than “just two more soldiers” to the big raw boned General. She eventually recovers, somewhat, and returns to a little town in Pennsylvania but refuses to forget or accept the fact that Raymond Anes is dead.
The unique skills that allowed him to survive were not overlooked by the CIA, nor were his linguistic skills; he is nearly fluent in five languages. After returning to America he is recruited and sent to Europe as a deep cover operative and assassin for the CIA after receiving intense and personal training at the infamous “Farm.” Raymond Anes is assigned the code name RYAN! He is given a complete new identity and a new life. Raymond Anes is dead!
His success at dismembering the Red Brigade in Italy and the Baader-Meinhoff Gang in Germany went far beyond even the CIA’s wildest expectations. Nine years later, after his assignment in Europe is over and while on a relaxing visit to Budapest Hungary he and his former girl friend unexpectedly meet once again! Both now have very different lives but they have never forgotten each other or their undying love. Their love affair was indeed that special.
He vows to bury his past and they return to America and they are married and enjoy seven blissful years and with a beautiful son. They are both accepted teachers in the Seattle School System but then his past catc
