Flower power ignites into fire power when Liz MacKay, a lonely young woman, entangles herself in a treacherous plot and murder during the Summer of Love. City of Redemption tells of the dark underbelly of the '60's. It is a vividly recounted suspenseful story where lies, betrayal, sex, drugs and murder lead to a woman's imprisonment. It is 1984 and Liz waits to be paroled for the murder of former commune member, Ricky Martinez. Is she guilty? She says yes. Her attorney and friend, Toni Bordeaux, disagrees and tells Liz she has paid her debt! In 1967, Liz's young son is kidnapped and murdered. Partly to blame for her young son's death and abandoned by her husband, Liz leaves Scotland in disgrace, hoping for a second chance at love and life. Glasgow, Scotland is the start of Liz's fall into darkness. Questioned by the police, hounded by the press and accused by her community Liz is advised to leave the only home she's known. She arrives in San Francisco during the Summer of Love to have a "jolly good time" with the free loving groovy people. Soon, she joins a commune. Her new family is a curious mix: Black Panthers Toni and her boyfriend, Bobby, trying to change the world, Sam, a Vietnam vet, seeking inner peace with a warrior past, a kindhearted, flamboyant hairdresser, Mason, ready for fame and love, a ditzy flower child named Cat, and her callous drug dealing boyfriend, Ricky, who loves his girlfriends then quickly tosses them aside. At first, Liz is happy to have found a welcoming home, but as her new roommates pry into her mysterious past Liz's search for a "jolly good time" brings more grief and a worsening drug addiction. She becomes unwittingly embroiled in a plot to bring down the Black Panthers and knows how to save her Panther friend Toni as a way to redeem herself for her part in her son's death. Telling her plot to another roommate, Liz is warned, "Keep your mouth shut." The old Liz from Glasgow emerges and in with a passionate zeal and with help from a co-conspirator, she seizes the chance to save her Toni and Bobby. But can she save her friends or will she just watch her commune family break apart? No one expects anything heroic from Liz, especially Ricky.
