In 1999 the British football star Glenn Hoddle was reported to have made nasty remarks about the disabled. A media frenzy erupted and Doug Moody was inspired to write his play The Shooting Star.
Moody takes us to a struggling community centre for the handicapped in Australia. The centre is populated by soccer mad students and staff members. The people who run the centre have broken home lives and survive in a crazy world of political correctness.
One of the lecturers looks very much like Glenn Hoddle and we explore the fall out from the alleged statements made by the much loved soccer player.
Will Hoddle be vindicated and will the handicapped students be able to forgive their idol?
This is another cracking piece of work from Doug Moody, the greatest playwright in the Southern Hemisphere.
