A charismatic young rock singer primes his group for a battle of bands, while simultaneously waging war with a hotshot NFL quarterback who is trying to steal his girlfriend. Zane Barrow is the mercurial, temperamental leader of Zane and The Night Train, a Baltimore-based rock band. Still in high school, he’s a gifted athlete, a hometown gridiron hero, and a man-child with a big dream. His obsession: to propel himself and his band to the top of the rock and roll universe. One year ago, as a ragged, struggling “garage band,” that dream seemed like pure folly. In the Fall of 1976, however, the game has changed. Powered by a hyperactive, iron pumping drummer, a guitar virtuoso wielding a 1961 Fender Stratocaster, and Zane’s impassioned vocals, the band is making waves on the local scene. The action begins at a high school State Championship football game, continues through a rollicking competition between regional bands, and culminates at a chaotic concert in front of a standing-room-only crowd of 5,000 screaming rock fans. Along the way, Zane must force showdowns with his estranged father, Ray Olsen, a Nashville music legend, and Rex Cannon, the prized rookie quarterback of the Baltimore Colts. Find out what happens as a young man struggles to save his love, hang on to his pride, and realize his lifelong dream. He has only one weapon with which to fight: a kick-ass rock and roll band.
