In 2012 Liverpool Football Club extended their run of success in the League Cup recording an eighth win in a competition they once treated as an early season distraction.

Like a number of top flight clubs the Reds actually failed to enter for a number of years. It was an inauspicious start to a relationship with a trophy they eventually grew to love.

The club first reached a first final in 1978 and suffered a controversial replay defeat by Nottingham Forest.

Three years later Liverpool were back in the final which again went to a second game - this time at Villa Park. West Ham United provided the final hurdle. Lifting the trophy started an unprecedented run of success in this competition as the Reds went on to defend the trophy for a further three seasons.

This match along with the other seven cup final wins are featured. Alongside full line-ups and statistics are the route Liverpool and each team they faced took to either Wembley or Cardiff.
