Sal Seize grows up on a golf course. His father’s golf course—in the south suburbs of Shaq’ago. And he dreams of playing golf in the Olympics. So when the city of big shoulders tries to bring the 2016 Games to the shores of Lake Michagain, Sal enthusiastically lends a hand. His zeal for the Games, though, has tragic consequences—he is accused of bribing the Olympic bid committee, among a few other seedy crimes, and is arrested from the front of his home. The ordeal causes him a nervous breakdown, and he decides to get a sex change before his sentencing.
Sal stands trial and, after the verdict is read, trundles off to jail as…Sally. There he meets poets and politicians, and tries ‘prune.’ And he reads a book—one that inspires him to write a story about the Great Flag Flap at Rebel High, and how a community rallied to defend the greatest symbol of shame known to the nation of his birth. Sal uses his dreams while in jail to inform his story, and is determined to get it right.
