Over the years I’ve read literally hundreds of cookbooks and not once have I found anywhere in any of the books a section on how or what to do if you’ve mistakenly and without malice aforethought burned or ruined the food you’re cooking.
I’m going to change that right here and now by providing some helpful hints, tips and tricks that could help you save your (bacon) or next mistake in the kitchen.
Everybody makes mistakes. We can all agree on that I’m sure. But when mistakes happen in the kitchen everybody also becomes painfully aware of your mistakes and things can get a little uncomfortable at the dinner table when you have to admit that what you’re serving isn’t really what you had planned due to a slight mishap during the meal preparation. Families try to understand and be supportive but eventually you’ll hear a horror story or two about the meal that was burned, ruined, flopped or simply thrown away.
What do you do when your car breaks down? Do you simply throw it away and go out and buy another one? Nope, of course not, you get it repaired.
And when your washing machine goes on the blink you don’t go out and buy another one without trying to repair what you already have, right? Of course you don’t you try to fix it like any sane person would do.
So why is it that when food is burned, the cake has flopped or the rice sticks to the pan that we just give up on it and throw it away? I think it is because we’ve never been taught what to do in this time of crisis and it is sad to see such expensive food being thrown away when in fact it could have been saved.
Come with me now on a journey to save your food and your sanity. This should be fun.
