One Hell of a Day's Gonna Turn Into One Hell of a Night!
There are a number of reasons why Barry Hynes isn't your average 28 year old Dubliner. For one, he still lives at home with his parents. That's just for starters. For example, there's his insistence on being called by his professional name - Wayne Talisman ('cos it's cooler than Barry); there's his friendship with an ex-communicated Catholic priest named Father (Deco) Logan; there's his knowledge of, and friendship with, the Dearg Du (a race of Irish born vampires who have learned to restrain their atavistic nature for hunting, and now monitor immigrant vampire activity in Ireland); and then there's the fact he believes he can communicate with his dead granda through his new pet whippet, Scully -- whom he believes is psychic.
None of this sits well with his working class da, who thinks his son is living in a fantasy world of too much television and too many comic books. Dermot Hynes just wants his son to 'cop ' onto himself and get a decent job-- like a barman
For the last ten years, Wayne has managed to keep his family and oft-times dangerous life separate. But in the next 24 hours, two powerfully dark forces will come together and throw his world into chaos.
Wayne and his friends (Hunter, an American student of folklore and the occult who has joined the group, and Redser, his childhood pal, just out of prison) must confront a demonic group called Congregation and a mythic cult of vampire revolutionaries called The Akeldama, before a monstrous revolution is birthed and the streets of Dublin run red with blood. The final battle will be waged high up in the Dublin mountains in the bowels of the legendary Hellfire Club, as Wayne fights to rescue his family and avert the spread of a diabolical evil. Before the day is over, Wayne's world will change...forever. Again
Wayne Talisman's Long Bloody Night is an action horror peppered with generous amounts of dark Dublin humour. But more than that, it's a heartwarming story of friendship, family, and a son's strained relationship with his father.
With gore.
And swear words.
