‘When Sal Met Pushpinder’ is an endearing and humorous story of a married couple’s first meeting and subsequent courtship.
Narrated by Pushpinder Singh, a thirty-something woman from central India, her recollections of meeting Sal commence while the two are students. Sal convinces her to begin writing for the university newspaper and, when she accepts, their fate as lovers is sealed. She soon meets his family and learns American customs—such as the ‘third date.’
It’s clear Pushpinder loves Sal, and her memory of their days of youth are still fond. But their marriage of ten years has taken a toll, and Sal has only recently gotten himself into serious trouble—jail.
