When our parental rights were terminated in 2008 due to a "lack of resources" yet the government was willing to pay thousands of dollars a year for someone else to care for our children, we were sure it must be an isolated incident. Unfortunately it is not. All too often poverty is confused with neglect. In Clark County, where children are removed from their homes at a much higher rate than average, children are being doubly failed. The children that need help are often not receiving it, and families that could have stayed together with assistance are being torn apart.
