Paula Stillman is 24 years old, born and raised on her family's farm in Alberta Province, Canada. She is small in stature, but well built with very long, curly flaming red hair. After her parents are killed in a violent automobile accident, she chooses to leave the ranch and reside in Winnipeg allowing her older sister and her husband to manage the ranch. Paula is an artist and writer, single, living in an apartment with a roommate, Anne Brooks. Anne is kept busy as a nurse who resides with patients during their critical care needs. While Paula enjoys dating men, she prefers to keep her relationships platonic. His actions relive moments of terror and fear in Paula, and she finds it necessary to return to the family ranch to rebuild relationships with her sister, Margaret, and her husband, Larry, and their two children. In this romantic thriller, Paula becomes the prey of several men. Wherever she goes, she is followed to the point that she runs and hides. Except for one man who persists in prying her out of the shadows of her past that seem to control her life.
