Moses is the centrepiece of the Exodus story, appointed and spoken to by God Himself. And, yes, it was a patriarchal society. However, as a woman of the 21st century, have you never wondered how the women coped, not just the highlighted women like Moses’ mother and sister and the princess but women generally in those times? What was it like for a neighbour of Moses’ family or a friend of his mother?

This Bible Study is woven around the life of a fictional woman like ourselves called Maya, who lives down the street from the family of Moses, and who experiences the impact of all the key events, but is not in a position to influence them. It also includes Maya’s fictional family and conversations with historical, Biblical persons.

The ten lessons of this Bible Study are designed to last 60 minutes each, beginning with a prayer for open hearts and minds and ending with prayer requests specific to the learning of the lesson. There are scripture references and questions to make you think about the application of the lesson in your life today.

The lessons can be done individually or in small groups. A Discussion Leader’s Guide is included to help with group work.

Comments from women who 'tested' this Bible Study:

"I thoroughly enjoyed doing the study and found that the latter lessons really challenged a lot of what the Church is facing today with respect to faith being put into action, rather than 'passed on' through generations... that our faith comes directly from a trusting relationship with God, not through family blood lines."

"The 'Questions to Ponder' are excellent...I especially like the 'Similar Situations' which demonstrate the consistency of Bible teachings."

"Using the fictional story of Maya really brings Exodus to life for me."
