Everybody wants to be popular - to be well-liked and sought after. Nobody wants to be the "odd man out", or the one who is always left on their own at a party or gathering.
Popular media wants us to believe that you have to be rich, good-looking or beautiful, with perfect teeth and a body to die for if you want to be popular and have lots of friends.
Common sense tells us otherwise, but we often forget what we experience every day. Some of our favourite friends are not perhaps the best-looking, richest or even most popular people on the block. What is it about them that makes us enjoy their company?
