For more than 25 years, the Wind Energy Program, one element of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Wind and Hydropower Technology Program (WHTP) under the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), has been a central component of the Nation’s efforts to advance wind energy technology for large utility-scale and smaller distributed wind technologies.
The Wind Program has worked in close partnership with industry and the national laboratories to expand the wind energy technology base and foster innovation, culminating in some of industry’s leading products today. The program has also created a family of internationally recognized wind turbine design tools that have led industry, utility, and government agencies in cooperative efforts to promote integration and acceptance of wind energy as a substantial contributor to meeting the Nation’s energy needs.
