Scandalous hip hop novel clearly based on Whitney Houston, Beyonce and Missy ElliottWritten long before Whitney Houston's death, Kola Boof's powerful, sexy pop novel about the seedy world of Hip Hop music has become an underground cult sensation. Many believe the lead character JennaSet Jones is based on Whitney Houston. The novel's insistence that rock star Kurt Cobain was murdered (possibly by his wife Courtney Love) has caused controversy in the cyber world. Filled with pornographic sex including suggestive Lesbian scenes with the Whitney Houton character, some critics said the book is just as offensive as it is thought-provoking while hip hop icons such as KANYE WEST praised the book as "Freaky, scandalous...mad sexy hot!." Readers should understand going in that this is a very controversial novel. Some portion of it is sure to offend you.The book opens when all of the characters are unknowns and slowly depicts their rise to fully iconic superstardom. Ms. Boof turned down a NETFLIX mini-series based on the book when she was not allowed to have full control of the script and the casting. In real life, Kola Boof and Whitney Houston met after it was revealed that terrorist Osama Bin Laden had an obsession with Whitney (Kola Boof had been his mistress in 1996 against her will). So it's quite bizarre that Boof went on to prophesy Houston's death. Kola Boof insists "Virgins In the Beehive" is not based on Whitney Houston's life and that the 'bath tub drowning' scenes (written many years before Houston's actual death) are a sad coincidence. Four characters in the book, Darling Nikki (Beyonce?) and Destiny Matthews (a combination of stripper Buffy the Body? Missy Elliott? Kelly Rowland?), Jiff Poppy (Sean Puffy Combs?) and Athena Hornet (Jennifer Lopez? Mariah Carey?) engage in powerfully eccentric, glamorous and provocative behavior. As with all of Boof’s novels, dark skinned women are the premiere goddesses of the universe. But especially touching in this novel is Boof’s loving sensitive portrait of troubled JennaSet Jones (Whitney Houston). If you never cared about Whitney before, you WILL after reading this novel. Boof clearly held a great love for her comrade.Because Whitney Houston died in 2012 from drowning--many have questioned how Kola Boof foresaw that tragedy (in the book, JennaSet Jones nearly drowns several times, including an incident in the bath tub). Boof has been asked if she was Psychic when writing Virgins. As always, Boof's powerful imagination takes the story far beyond mere caricature. Hip hop critics can’t deny the many truths Ms. Boof reveals in these streets...and in these pages. Truly a literary hip hop classic!Brian MossGAWKER___________________________________PRAISE FOR VIRGINS IN THE BEEHIVE"Freaky, scandalous...mad, sexy, hot!" --KANYE WEST"Only Kola Boof could have written something this wild.I love it!"---NOIRE (author of "CandyLicker")"Fierce!
