This Master of Arts thesis in biblical studies focuses on Paul's self-identification as a priest in Romans 15:15-16, by closely analyzing the original text and context of this passage, a passage which is often overlooked or only superficially considered. The original Greek words used by Paul are closely and rigorously analyzed to obtain a better understanding of Paul's intent (an ability to read or to transliterate the Greek alphabet will be helpful to readers in certain sections of the study). The passage is also analyzed briefly in the context of the Septuagint and other Pauline writings. This study is important because of its implications for the way modern ordained priests view their ministry if they look to the Apostle Paul as one of their prime models for their ordained ministry. This study is especially pertinent to Catholic priests in the aftermath of the recently completed Year of St. Paul and the current Year of the Priest which will close in June, 2010.
