" Good Evening ma'am," Officer Bryant greeted Cid. "My name is officer, Lendy Bryant. I am with the, "Domestic Crimes Unit." This is officer Mckenlow. We are partners. " How do you do?" The burly officer standing beside the tiny woman officer greeted the disheveled Cid. Cid was standing beneath a large Bottle Brush tree which grew in her front yard.

Her eyes were swollen and red. Her long brown hair was matted and uncombed. The children who stood with their young mother, under the same tree, were frozen rigid in cold fear. Huddled together, clinging tightly to each other the children acted as if they had seen a ghost or at the very least something surreal.

The two officers were pretty sure, after exchanging notes about the case with each other, that something had happened. Something out of the ordinary, not just a domestic. There was something wrong with the entire scene, and these officers were determined to get to the bottom of it all.
