“I felt Peter was awfully mean to Marilyn. After all, on the evening that she died she had called him on the telephone and had said goodbye to everyone there at his beach house. Then she dropped the telephone as a result of her loss of consciousness. Peter had run to her rescue before (just as he had with Judy Garland) when she pleaded over the phone for him to come over. However, this time was different because she said ‘goodbye’. ‘Goodbye’ sounded final.
