George Louise Becke [1855-1913], better known as Louis Becke, was a short-story writer and novelist prominent in the 1890s. He was a frequent traveller to the South Pacific islands, and his experiences are reflected in his many works. His time in the Pacific includes a stay on Beru (Kiribati) in the 1880's, where he was shipwrecked, as well as time in the Marshalls and further afield in the company of Bully Hayes.
