A Mine of Faults - F. W. Bain

Francis William Bain (1863–1940) was a British writer of fantasy stories that he "claimed" were translated from Sanskrit. What came out years later was that his works were all originals and that his remarkable detailed Indian stories were mastered from a mind saturated in Hindoo mystecism and Sanskrit poetry.

To quote the New York Times Book Review, "the stories are not easy to describe, but it has been said of them that we have nothing in English literature at once so tender, so passionate, so melancholy and so wise."

This novel was one of many that followed his first successful book, "A Digit of the Moon".
