It is a book on war and military strategy by Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz. On War is one of the first books on modern military strategy. It is based on his observations and his own experience in the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. He also included examples of those wars and others to support his assertions. He died in 1831 and after his death his wife compiled his notes and manuscript and published them in 1832.J.J. Graham translated Vom Kriege and published this version in 1873.
